Sure, they test the software and make certain it is truly portable, but it is an unneeded service for most who daily use portable software after the initial, "Ooo, a cool new computer thing."Īs to the OP's issue, the nature of portable software, independent of the standard OS framework software uses, makes what you want very difficult. PortableApps is one of those sites that just bugs me. They do tell us whether the program is 100% portable, whether you need to edit an. It is a listing site, not a file hosting and distribution site. Sure, they are trying to help, but all the things that are great have portable versions from their parent's sites. I believe their software is unusable for automation/startup purposes and after this "censorship" of sorts, I won't be using it again. TL DR I submitted well-thought-out criticisms to Portable Apps, and their developers shut me down without merit. I have submitted another thread, here, so that their own community might see their reaction to criticism, but I would like Reddit to be aware of this also. Later today I found that my comments were all deleted and further comments on the issue are now disabled.

I submitted my comments about this to the Portable Apps forum, here, using a newly-made account with a disposable email address, basically saying how I thought their proposed "solutions" - which are, as you can see, simply telling users to close their apps "properly" - were shocking and unacceptable from a software usability point of view.

This effectively makes Portable Apps utterly useless for running at startup or any other automation purposes. Failure to do so will result in an error message the next time an app is started, and a request to manually restart the app again. My comments related to an issue which has been present for years in the platform whereby users must manually close portable apps before shutting down or restarting the computer. Earlier today I posted several constructive but critical comments about applications from - a site which packages popular Windows applications into a portable format using their own proprietary platform.
